The descriptive essay is a genre of essay that asks the student to describe something—object, person, place, experience, emotion, situation, etc.

How do I write a descriptive essay?

  1. Select something to write about. Chose something you feel strongly about and can recall is detail. Your topic may be an object, person, place, experience, emotion, situation, etc.
  2. Brainstorm everything that comes to mind when you think of you topic. Consider the below graphic organizer:

What do you see? What do you hear? What do you taste? What do you smell? What might you touch or feel?
