Learning Objective: Effectively use descriptive language, figurative language and the five senses to describe something.
Instructions: Write a 3 to 5 paragraph descriptive essay on any topic of your choosing. Include at least 2 figures of speech and a minimum of 4 senses.
Due Date: 1 week
What is a descriptive essay?
The descriptive essay is a genre of essay that asks the student to describe something—object, person, place, experience, emotion, situation, etc.
How do I write a descriptive essay?
- Select something to write about. Chose something you feel strongly about and can recall is detail. Your topic may be an object, person, place, experience, emotion, situation, etc.
- Brainstorm everything that comes to mind when you think of you topic. Consider the below graphic organizer:

3. Start writing! Never worry about grammar and details in your first draft.
